The Minnesota Timberwolves are going up against a surprisingly steady Charlotte Hornets team tonight at home for the second-straight game.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, 6-19, have the worst record in the NBA. They have lost three straight games and hold the best odds to win the 2021 NBA Draft lottery. However, the return of Karl-Anthony Towns should propel them to a position to which they should be able to compete with any team.

Coming off of a competitive loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Timberwolves are going up against the current 6th seed in the Eastern Conference, led by offseason acquisitions Gordon Hayward and LaMelo Ball – both of whom are outperforming preseason expectations.

What to watch for in Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Charlotte Hornets

One of the main storylines tonight will be about Ball and first-overall pick Anthony Edwards, two of the most promising rookies from this years’ draft. Ball is leading all rookies in total points, total assists, total rebounds, and total steals – while also posting really good efficiency in both his passing and scoring. Edwards, on the other hand is second in points per game among rookies, and is averaging 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game over his last eleven games.

The Charlotte Hornets have two major weaknesses: guarding elite centers and defending the 3-point shot – two things that the Timberwolves should theoretically be able to capitalize on.

The Hornets, do, however, play a really great brand of team basketball that will likely capitalize on the Timberwolves’ lackluster defense – and if Towns is on a minutes restriction – Charlotte might be able to do enough to pull away with the win.
