The Minnesota Timberwolves could be the third team in a Kyle Lowry trade (or any trade involving a star going to a contender). In this case, they move off of Juan Hernangomez and Jarrett Culver while getting Matisse Thybulle and Mike Scott.

While this move isn’t sexy by any means, it allows them to shed Hernangomez’s salary for next season while getting someone of equal value to Culver. Matisse Thybulle doesn’t play a tremendous number of minutes for the 76ers, but he is a defense-first wing that is inconsistent at shooting.

Jarrett Culver has been disappointing in his career thus far, and giving up on him this soon would be sad, but this is a small move that improves the long-term outlook of the Timberwolves. Mike Scott is a short-term upgrade over Hernangomez and would presumably be able to get minutes as a rotational forward.

The 76ers take this deal because they, of course, would be getting a high-level guard for their championship push, and the Raptors accept this trade as a team that might be re-tooling as a borderline playoff team in a weaker Eastern Conference.
