Jalen Green, Wing, G-League

Following Jalen Suggs is Jalen Green, a high-level athlete with upside as a scoring wing. Jalen Green makes a lot of sense as a top-5 pick for most teams. That said, the Timberwolves should have him ranked last among the possible options, simply because the LAST thing they currently need is another wing scorer.

What Jalen Green has done in the G-League is obviously impressive. Averaging 18 points per game on 46/37/83 splits against borderline NBA players is enough to get you selected first overall in most draft classes. Again, though, for a team that already has Edwards and Beasley on the wings, Green wouldn’t make much sense (UNLESS Gersson Rosas/Chris Finch truly believe Green is significantly better than Suggs/Kuminga, in which case, you select him).

Green is an electric scorer and incredible athlete. He’s not going to be a playmaker, nor does he really have to be to succeed. He’s going to beat you with an advanced offensive arsenal of moves – driving, shooting, pull-up jumpers, etc, and is smoother and more consistent than some will lead you to believe. When he’s ‘on’, there is no better player on the court – but when he’s out of synch, Green can shoot your team out of a game (cough, Anthony Edwards, cough).

And again, unless some major moves are made around the roster and the Timberwolves are picking third, Green is not going to be a good fit.
