2021 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Timberwolves keep pick, Magic load up
6. Wizards – Scottie Barnes, Forward, Florida State
What the hell are you supposed to do this offseason if you’re the Washington Wizards? No, really. The Wizards made a win-now move by trading John Wall for Russell Westbrook, but the issue is the team got worse from the year prior – even without Wall playing a single minute.
Bradley Beal became an All-Star starter this season averaging over 31 points per game on the highest FG-percentage of his career, and the Wizards are stuck in the bottom of the league. Do they trade this pick? Do they move Beal and Westbrook less than a season after giving up a first-round pick?
Ignoring that and moving to Scottie Barnes, the Wizards would be getting themselves a big, defensive-minded initiator that, at the very least, will impact the game from those two aspects.
Scottie Barnes can be used in a variety of ways. The Wizards will likely use him as a versatile wing/forward defender while Hachimura/Bertans are on the floor, but he can also run the back-up point guard role as well – something that Washington desperately needs. He would be a good fit in addition to having a decent ceiling depending on how his long-range jumper turns out.
