For the Minnesota Timberwolves, the 2020-2021 season has been nothing short of a disappointment.
Despite the overwhelming depth of the Western Conference, the Timberwolves have massively underperformed this year, currently holding the worst record in the league.
Still, there’s talent on the roster, and much of the team carries uncertain futures. Let’s take a look at which players have the most to play for moving forward.
Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 Wolves players with the most to play for
The most bizarre part of the Wolves’ blunder of a season is the amount of talent on the roster. While it’s far from the least talented in the league, the lack of cohesion on this team was a big indictment on Ryan Saunders, which ultimately led to him being fired.
We could argue all day as to whether or not firing Ryan Saunders was the right move, but it’s hard to explain away how a roster consisting of Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, and Malik Beasley can be the worst team in the league.
Of course, the team has been ravaged with injuries, illness, and off-the-court difficulties. With that said, an overlooked piece to this team’s failure has been the underperformance of key role players.
Because of this, the individual future of many of the Wolves’ rotation players have become uncertain, both with the Wolves and in the NBA in general. The market for players isn’t traditionally kind to rotational players on the worst team in the NBA, so there are plenty of Timberwolves players with a lot to play for this season.
With a playoff appearance off the table from a team perspective, let’s look at the three Timberwolves players with the most to play for during the remainder of the season.
