Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards has a great chance to be the Rookie of the Year, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still have a favorite player.

In a recent interview with GQ, Edwards spoke on a number of topics, including his rapping ability, baseball skills, welcome-to-the-NBA moment, and his favorite player.

Minnesota Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards’ favorite player is still Kevin Durant

Edwards noted that his favorite team to watch growing up was the Oklahoma City Thunder squads that included both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. When asked if he still feels the same way about the pair of former MVPs, Edwards affirmed that Durant is his favorite player.

"As far as Durant being my favorite player? Nah. Hell nah, that hasn’t changed. He’s still my favorite player … He gave us 30 off of 15 shots. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody, when I look at the box score, look at the sheet, and they take 15 shots and they get 30. Like, I haven’t seen that. I’ve looked at every superstar that we played. He had 30 on 15 shots, he was 11-for-15."

He’s not wrong. Durant dropped 31 on 15 shots just a couple of weeks ago in the postponed and rescheduled matchup between the Wolves and the Brooklyn Nets.

By the way, credit to Edwards for recognizing the efficiency. Wolves head coach Chris Finch has stressed efficiency to Edwards in regards to shot selection and getting into the paint more frequently. Edwards also spoke to the coaching change in the interview, noting that he didn’t have much time to really work with Ryan Saunders but Finch has simply told him to go play his game.

Anthony Edwards says he can throw a 100-mile-per-hour fastball

Earlier this year, Edwards appeared with Marney Gellner on the Wolves+ podcast and expressed confidence in his ability to play virtually any sport.

Now, Edwards is confirming that not only can he play baseball, but he could step onto a mound and throw 92 to 93 miles per hour right now. Additionally, the rookie believes that with a month’s training, he could throw 100.

The crazy thing is, it’s not all that hard to believe. He’s an incredible athlete. Of course, we’re not talking about pitching control — could he throw strikes? — or hitting a 100 mile-per-hour fastball. That’s an entirely different animal.

There were plenty of other topics covered, including Edwards’ welcome-to-the-NBA moment while guarding Bradley Beal, living in Minneapolis during the Derek Chauvin murder trial, and his candidacy for the Rookie of the Year award.
