NBA Mock Draft: New Orleans Pelicans take Cam Thomas at #11

The New Orelans Pelicans rank dead-last in 3-pointers made this season. They are also bottom-five in 3-point percentage and take the least amount of threes per game. Long-story short, New Orleans needs more on the perimeter – especially from the guards.

Just before the trade deadline, the Pelicans traded JJ Redick to the Dallas Mavericks for what essentially breaks down to a second-round pick. Redick was crucial to the Pelicans spacing, and they need to look to add more to that with this selection.

Cam Thomas has the ceiling that NBA teams look for in the lottery, and has the volume and free throw-percentage that indicates he will be a much better shooter at the NBA level.

The obvious other choice here would be Corey Kispert – although, again, teams picking in the lottery tend to favor the ceiling of a player rather than what they currently are – fair or not.

Cam Thomas is undersized for a shooting guard, but 23 points per game as a freshman is just absurd – no matter who it is against. Thomas consistently made it to the free throw line, where he shot almost-90-percent. He makes a lot of sense for the Pelicans, who, once again, have to improve their spacing.

The Pelicans, like the Kings, are another team to watch when it comes to trades this coming offseason. They might go after a star – and if they do – could pair them with Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. They certainly have the assets to do that.
