NBA Mock Draft: Orlando Magic take Jalen Suggs at #4

The Orlando Magic have a fun team. Cole Anthony is electric, RJ Hampton is a player to watch, and Wendell Carter has improved since being traded from the Chicago Bulls. Adding Jalen Suggs to that core of players would be a win on all fronts, especially considering Suggs’s all-around complementary ability.

The Magic could add Suggs as either a primary or secondary ball-handler, his passing and facilitation would allow either role. He played mainly as the 2-guard for a loaded Gonzaga team, but his versatility would be useful – especially with Markelle Fultz returning next season.

Orlando needs to take whichever of Suggs or Green falls to them. In this case, it’s Suggs. Both of those players are in their own tier in this draft class – and it is not unpopular to say that either would have been the first overall pick in the 2020 draft – over Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, and LaMelo Ball.

The Magic, led by coach Steve Clifford, will also have Jonathan Isaac back in 2021-22. A starting lineup of Fultz/Suggs/Isaac/Okeke/Carter is really fun, and generally speaking, fits really well with one another.

The best part is that the Magic also have the Chicago Bulls’ first-round pick, which is going to end up in the lottery (assuming the Bulls do not jump in the lottery). There’s going to be a plethora of options with that pick, as well, but the Magic have too many needs to pick anything other than the best player available.
