Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 teams that could trade for Malik Beasley
The New York Knicks, similar to the two teams already discussed, need to add more shooting. While the Knicks as a team shot 35.2-percent from the 3-point line, the volume of those threes was among the five worst in the league.
The Knicks are not on the hook for much future money, having both RJ Barrett and Julius Randle locked up for at least one more year. Adding Malik Beasley to that core would give them a solid, young, consistent shooter.
The Timberwolves would be able to add an underrated (and underappreciated) rim protector in Mitchell Robinson, who averages 3.2 blocks per 36 minutes over the course of his career. Additionally, his offensive rating has been above 130 for every season that he’s been in the NBA. Karl-Anthony Towns would have to slide to the power forward spot when sharing the floor with Robinson, but he’s a consistent player that’s worthy of minutes on any team – and he raises the floor of the defense when on the court.
The Timberwolves, adding two first-round picks, would be getting two good future assets. While the Mavericks almost certainly will not be a lottery team in 2023, their draft pick could become more valuable with the possible departure of Kristaps Porzingis this coming offseason – and the team as a whole took a step back from 2019-20.
The Timberwolves would be getting a solid rotational player as well as two tangible draft assets – one in the current year. With the 2021 NBA Draft being as strong as most suggest it is, that’s two potential role players for someone that only gave the Timberwolves 37 games this year – and it diversifies the skillsets available to Chris Finch as well.
