Minnesota Timberwolves: Bold Predictions – The Timberwolves have a draft pick

The Minnesota Timberwolves probably aren’t going to have their draft pick this offseason. In fact, there’s a 70-plus percent chance it conveys – and the Warriors have an additional lottery pick to use.

But even if that is the case, it’s possible that Minnesota trades into the first (or second) round. With little cap space available to them to bring in any veteran players, one of the few options to improve the roster further could be to trade for a pick (somewhere in the first round).

There are a few different players that could be moved for a pick – but one to keep an eye on would be Josh Okogie, who becomes contract-extension eligible this coming offseason as he is entering his fourth NBA season.

Some of the more intriguing fits in the draft this year include Terrence Shannon (Texas Tech wing), Ziaire Williams (Stanford wing), Scottie Barnes (Florida State guard), and Isaiah Livers (Michigan forward).

The value in where they pick is going to depend on how good of a player Gersson Rosas feels comfortable parting with. Malik Beasley, for instance, might be dealt in order to re-shape the roster, making it more balanced in terms of positional breakdown (there are very, VERY many shooting guards and small forwards currently).

Adding another draft pick (or keeping the pick that could convey to Golden State) would give the Timberwolves another low-cost player to a roster that already has so much money committed to top players ($30+ million to each of Russell and Towns, $18 million to Rubio). It would be interesting to see how Rosas goes about picking players.
