Minnesota Timberwolves: Bold Predictions – The team acquires a win-now veteran

The Timberwolves have constantly showed their need this season for a player that can help them win now – particularly in the frontcourt. There are several options available via free agency, although it could be a little tricky to acquire them.

For instance, Kelly Olynyk would be an excellent addition. He’s an older veteran that has lots of good years left in him – and his game should age gracefully. Olynyk is a shooter in the frontcourt and provides value off-ball as well.

For Minnesota to acquire him, though, he will have to either agree to a contract worth less than the mid-level exception, or agree to a sign-and-trade with a team that actually has cap space. One option would be to trade someone such as Jarrett Culver or Juan Hernangomez (or both, to match salaries) in order to solidify the frontcourt.

Olynyk could immediately start, and his presence in the locker room would also help – given the amount of young talent that the Timberwolves have.

Another option could be Rudy Gay. Although, again, Gay is on the older side (35 this offseason), adding him to a roster of younger players would be great, especially since he still should presumably be able to contribute.

It’s hard to predict how good of a veteran the Timberwolves will be able to acquire, but a decent role player is not an unrealistic expectation – especially if Minnesota has to part with an asset in order to bring them in.
