3 teams that Minnesota Timberwolves fans should cheer for in the playoffs: Portland Trail Blazers

There are a surprising amount of similarities between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

First, both teams have been on (what seems like) an eternal quest to find a way to maximize their best player, whether it be Damian Lillard or Karl-Anthony Towns. Obviously, the Blazers are significantly better than the Timberwolves,  but the point stands.

Additionally, beloved season-and-a-half Timberwolf Robert Covington is a part of this Trail Blazers unit – spearheaded by head coach Terry Stotts.

The Blazers are one of the few small market teams that has been able to win a championship in the past – led by Bill Walton, beating the Philadelphia 76ers in 1977.

More recently, Damian Lillard has just been downright fun to watch, particularly late in the season, when each and every game matters. He showed in the bubble last year why he is the most clutch player in the NBA. Lillard is downright incredible from distance, and he can carry his team when they need it the most.

The Blazers have been a consistent playoff team throughout Terry Stotts tenure, last missing the playoffs in 2012-13, which led to them drafting CJ McCollum with a lottery pick.

Portland has been admirable in the way they have gone about teambuilding – although they need to look to acquire another big-time name to push them over the edge as full fledge contenders – because right now they just look like regular Western Conference first-round exits – although Wolves fans can appreciate their success – led by someone that genuinely wants to be a Trail Blazer.
