Minnesota Timberwolves 2021 offseason wish list
Minnesota Timberwolves’ offseason wish list: Win-now rotational player
The Timberwolves have a lot of young talent. Like, a lot. Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Jaylen Nowell, Jarrett Culver, Josh Okogie, Naz Reid are all under the age of 25 – and if they add another draft pick this year, there will be another name on that list.
For Minnesota, they need to add a veteran that can step in and play on both sides of the ball. The easiest way to go about doing this is going to be through a trade.
One of the various options is Josh Richardson, a wing/forward player that can create for others and defend at a high level. Richardson isn’t the best shooter, but he would fill a huge need, and could potentially start at the three (with Malik Beasley coming off of the bench as the sixth man).
Another option is Kelly Olynyk, who would make a great stretch-4 as Jaden McDaniels continues his development arc as a 3-and-D forward.
Olynyk, who was signed by the Miami Heat several years ago, was dealt to the Houston Rockets in combination with Avery Bradley for Victor Oladipo. In Houston, Kelly-O has really flourished, averaging 19 points per game on 55/39/84 splits. He would be a win-now veteran that could step in on a mid-tier contract, and give the team a solid 25-30 minutes a night. Additionally, Olynyk has never missed more than eight games in a season – the type of consistency the Timberwolves really need.
