The Indiana Pacers really, really need another rotational forward. But with Jalen Johnson unavailable, there really are not any strong options at this point in the draft. Ziaire Williams, though, is a lengthy small forward that can defend multiple positions – while also having the athleticism and scoring upside to make him an intriguing fit in the lottery.

The Pacers have Jeremy Lamb, Caris LeVert, and Justin Holiday on the wings currently – and only one of those players will seemingly be a long-term piece of the Indiana core.

Williams can slot in as a developmental prospect that eventually earns minutes as the season goes by – he’s not really the type of player that you necessarily want to throw into the fire, so to speak.

NBA Mock Draft: Pacers select Ziaire Williams

Ziaire Williams would be a solid pick for any team selecting in the teens, and the Pacers take him at the very top of that range. While it may be a slight reach, having high-level playmakers in Indiana such as Malcolm Brogdon and Domantas Sabonis will only help Williams’s development arc – something that should not be taken for granted with the tools that he possesses.

One of the tantalizing traits that Williams flashes (albeit not consistently) was the ability to create his own shot in isolation. He excels off-ball, moving around the offense without the ball – and is one of the better athletes in this draft class.

Williams also, however, needs to continue to build muscle and improve the consistency in his jumper – something he has shown that he trusts a lot.
