Orlando Magic. Keon Johnson. 6. player. 38. . Wing

The Orlando Magic, much like the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, are in a position to select the top overall player on their board. In this case, they add a high-level defender and athlete in Keon Johnson.

Along with being the best overall player on the board left at this stage in the draft, the Magic fill a huge need in someone that can step in and guard the opponents best wing scorer. Keon Johnson has that type of prowess – and because of it – makes his floor much, much higher.

Johnson, in terms of scoring, is able to leverage his elite athleticism, particularly over smaller guards. He’s a high-effort playmaker on defense, although again, as a raw player, he can have some lapses on that end of the floor.

NBA Mock Draft: Magic take swing on Keon Johnson

Keon Johnson gives some Isaac Okoro vibes from last year’s draft, and his “swing skill”, per se, is going to be his shooting. If Johnson is able to hit, say, 35-percent of his 3-pointers, the rest of his game should come around fairly easily – it will unlock most of what he can do.

Another player that the Magic could consider with this selection is Scottie Barnes – and with a front office that has valued length and rare traits from bigger wings, he very well could be the player they decide to select. For now, though, they hit a need with a really high-upside play.
