Minnesota Timberwolves free agency targets: Justise Winslow

The Memphis Grizzlies actually are going to have a shocking amount of continuity in 2021-22. As of right now, They have 13 players that will be on their roster, with the ability to sign a major free agent this coming offseason.

At the time of writing this, the 8th-seeded Memphis Grizzlies actually lead the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference playoffs 1-0 – led by young star point guard Ja Morant.

Justise Winslow is one of the more interesting players on their roster. In 26 games this season, he averaged only seven points, five rebounds, and two assists. Additionally his shooting splits were just downright bad.

Winslow has been recovering from injury prone since the 2018-19 season, and has not gotten consistent minutes since then. It seems unlikely that the Grizzlies pick up the team option on his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

For the Timberwolves, he could come in and have an immediate role. Winslow would be one of the best defenders on a team that desperately needs it. While he doesn’t offer much from an offensive perspective (other than playmaking), Winslow’s defense is enough to warrant taking a shot on. And if it turns out that he can, in fact, play winning basketball, then the Wolves found a role player on the cheap in a year where they desperately needed one.
