Minnesota Timberwolves free agency targets: Torrey Craig

The Phoenix Suns have been incredibly impressive this season. The addition of Chris Paul was arguably the best acquisition of any franchise in the league last offseason. Torrey Craig was brought in mid-season through a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Since that trade, the 30-year old small forward has averaged seven points and five rebounds per game on splits of 50/37/80. A low-volume high efficiency forward is what every NBA team covets – especially one that does not have that type of skill set on their roster – the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In addition to being a solid low-volume player, Craig is also a solid defender – or, at least – good enough to get on the floor for playoff minutes. Craig has had a positive defensive box-plus minus throughout this season – with more defensive win shares than offensive win shares in three of his four career seasons.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Craig could be a small forward/power forward tweener, something that the Timberwolves do not have at the moment (outside of, say, Jake Layman). Getting two-way, consistent veteran players is, at stated several times throughout this piece, the number one goal of the Timberwolves this offseason.

General manager Gersson Rosas knows that the Timberwolves need veterans that can get on the floor – and while he may not be flashy, Torrey Craig can offer exactly that.
