Minnesota Timberwolves free agency target: Georges Niang

The Utah Jazz are unlike any other team this season. They have two stars in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert surrounded by an incredible supporting cast. Two of their better players – Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles – finished first and second respectively in the 6th man of the year race. Mike Conley has improved a lot since last season, as well.

One of the more underrated players on the Jazz, though, has been Goerges Niang, who has been a downright electric scorer.

Niang appeared in all 72 games for the Jazz this season – tied with Bojan Bogdanovic for being the only two on the roster that played in every game. Niang averaged seven points on 44/43/96 splits – he only missed one free throw over the course of the entire season.

Niang, being apart of the Jazz, also has been to the playoffs twice, and he averaged 45/35/100 splits in those playoff minutes (only 13 games). At age 27, he can provide plenty of future value, and may be worth the full mid-level exception.

The Timberwolves need consistent players – and while Niang isn’t the best defender – he does have an elite skill while also never missing a considerable amount of time due to injury. Niang is as consistent as it gets from that front – and for a team that had Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Malik Beasley all miss a significant portion of the season, it would make more than enough sense to throw an offer at Niang.

Niang is a high-level role player on the best team (by record) in the NBA this season. There is not much to hate – so long as the expectations are not set too high.
