Minnesota Timberwolves: One trade with the 2nd overall pick

Okay, this trade would be a bit more savvy than the aforementioned Charlotte Hornets one. First, the Timberwolves would be giving up Evan Mobley – someone that could presumably start alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, but the fit between the two leaves more to be desired.

Instead, they would be allowing the Raptors to move up and snag the big man – something that the team desperately was missing after losing both Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka to free agency (and not really replacing them, either).

The Timberwolves would be getting a future asset to make up for their lost pick to Golden State AND getting another rotational guard player in Malachi Flynn, who received a Rookie of the Month award once this past season.

Again, it’s not like the Timberwolves wouldn’t have a pick, either. They still would have a selection of good players – possibly deciding between Tennessee wing Keon Johnson, Florida State guard Scottie Barnes, and Michigan forward Franz Wagner – all of which have great upside.

The Timberwolves have to find a rotational player – and Mobley could very well be that. But if Gersson Rosas is going to look to replenish assets, this would be a great way to do so. There’s a good chance Flynn takes a lot of Rubio’s minutes as soon as this season, should this deal happen.
