Third-most potential player: Jaden McDaniels

There’s a lot to like about what Jaden McDaniels was able to do this past season. He filled in as the perfect role player, making a high percentage of his low-volume shots while also being a legitimately good defender – one of the best on the Timberwolves, in fact.

McDaniels is only 20 years old (21 in September), and he has not yet filled out his frame. Standing at 6-foot-10, only 190 pounds, there’s a lot of room for growth – and you can see that with how McDaniels plays basketball.

He’s lengthy, yet his rim protection could use some work – despite it already being at a decently high level. His outside scoring is great, but McDaniels has a harder time finishing through contact.

Again, even if McDaniels didn’t get marginally better in some areas, he still projects to be a high-level role player – and for a late-first round pick, that’s all you can ask for.

There are some other players worth mentioning here – like Jarrett Culver and Jaylen Nowell. That said, neither of those players have nearly the ceiling that McDaniels does – albeit McDaniels may never reach that ceiling.

Jaden McDaniels is never going to be Kevin Durant. He’s never going to be a star – even. Assigning those expectations to someone as young as he would be irrational. That said, he does have the third-highest ceiling on the Timberwolves among players that are under the age of 25 – and that’s saying quite a bit with how much young talent there is on the roster.
