The Minnesota Timberwolves have a clear goal in mind – and that is to make the playoffs. With one of the youngest rosters in the NBA, Minnesota has time on their side – especially with franchise cornerstones Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell having multiple years left on their contracts.

There are several ways for the team to improve, though, such as getting more role players around those franchise cornerstones. That said, the Timberwolves don’t really have many trade chips to throw out – especially with their first-round pick likely conveying to the Golden State Warriors in the draft lottery that is happening in less than two weeks.

The New York Knicks drastically overperformed this past season, finishing fourth in the Eastern Conference before losing to the Atlanta Hawks in five games in the first round of the playoffs.

The Knicks have a lot of Timberwolves connections, but the most notable of those is head coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached Minnesota to their only playoff appearance since 2004. Following his dismissal, the Timberwolves brought in a new regime – with Ryan Saunders headlining the coaching staff. That lasted for about two seasons before Saunders was fired in favor of Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch.

The Knicks make one of the more interesting trade partners for the Timberwolves because they have salary cap space (a lot of it), draft picks, and low-salaried players – all of the things that Minnesota could presumably utilize in a trade.

And with Timberwolves general manager Gersson Rosas being as trigger-happy as any other league general managers, there are some deals that are plausible with the Knicks.

Here are three possible trades with New York.
