The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to be grazing along the luxury tax line this offseason, and one of the ways to put less pressure on that aspect of the team would be to move a larger contract, with the most likely option being Ricky Rubio.

In this deal, the Minnesota Timberwolves would be giving up a 2023 second-round pick in order to get off of Rubio’s contract while also bringing in Reggie Bullock, a great 3-point shooter (and positive defender this past season).

The New York Knicks have a good deal of salary cap space, so Rubio wouldn’t be a huge burden to carry – especially since they would still have a maximum salary slot (particularly because he has an expiring contract.

Giving up a second-round pick to flip Rubio for a role player that can contribute in more ways should be a no-brainer – especially with how good of a shooter Bullock was this past year (41-perent on 10 attempts per game).

Adding another two-way wing to a team that really needs more ready contributors is only going to help – and with the Knicks not having to give up much of anything, this deal makes sense for all sides (and it also gives NYK a ready pass-first point guard – something they do not currently have on contract).
