NBA Mock Draft: Wolves take Minn native, Rockets get lucky

Well, with the earlier pick, I had the Orlando Magic selecting the Tennessee wing Keon Johnson. Here, to complement that, I have them taking one of the most sure bets in this draft in Corey Kispert.

There’s a lot of discourse about Corey Kispert – and I just don’t really see a way which he becomes a total bust of a player – because his shooting is otherworldly. He’s good enough at that one particular skill to be most NBA team’s best shooter.

And that shooting isn’t just going to go away overnight, either. He’s proven that he’s consistent from beyond the three point line over the course of his college career – and on volume as well. The Magic selecting Corey Kispert would be a direct contrast to them picking Keon Johnson three picks earlier. He would make a lot of sense as a safer bet if they took a high-risk-high-reward player with their earlier pick.

Kispert should immediately receive minutes, and could play anywhere from the shooting guard position all the way to a small ball power forward role. He can slot anywhere the Magic need him – they just have to understand that he is not going to offer much outside of shooting – especially in the defense department, where he was downright poor during some nights at Gonzaga.

Again, though, this pick makes sense, and the Magic should be considering him – especially with some of their other core players being inept from the perimeter (Isaac, Fultz).
