Keon Johnson. 6. player. 38. . Wing. Orlando Magic

Keon Johnson is one of the more interesting players in this draft. He’s very athletic, offers a lot in terms of his effort defensively, but his shooting projection is slightly concerning. Still, for an Orlando Magic team that is looking to collect talent, Johnson makes more than enough sense to select with the sixth overall pick.

NBA Mock Draft: Orlando Magic take Keon Johnson

At the trade deadline this past year, the Magic essentially had a fire sale – selling Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon to the highest bidder – bringing in several first round picks, Wendell Carter, RJ Hampton, and Gary Harris.

Keon Johnson is one of the better wing players in this years draft. He is going to require some development – and I think the Orlando Magic coaching hire is going to be a consequential one here – but if Johnson’s floor-to-ceiling ratio is good enough to where I presume most teams would be comfortable selecting him high. In a normal draft, Johnson would likely be a top-5 pick, but as I’ve stated several times – this is no ordinary draft.

Johnson wasn’t really used as a wing at Tennessee – but more so rather as a combo small forward-power forward.

While he may be crunched for minutes initially, Johnson’s talent should eventually win out at the 2/3 position – with Gary Harris spelling him throughout Magic games. He would be a nice addition to a developing rotation. There is just so, so much upside with what Orlando is building.
