Toronto Raptors. Davion Mitchell. 8. player. 81. . Guard

The Toronto Raptors had a uniquely bad season. It was one of the few seasons which they would fail to make the playoffs over the course of the past several years. Now, with lots of future money tied up into players like OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, and Fred VanVleet, they need to add more complementary players.

NBA Mock Draft: Toronto Raptors take Davion Mitchell

That’s where Davion Mitchell comes in – who has a very high floor but probably won’t ever be much more than a solid role player. Mitchell, though, brings skills that everyone wants from their point guards. He’s a great point of action defender, proactive playmaker, and was really good at shooting this past year.

I’ll be the first to admit, though, I’m not as high on Mitchell as others are. He’s an older prospect – and while that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have potential – it is just hard to see him progressing further than what he brought at Baylor this past season – and it also is not unlikely that his shooting regresses compared to last season.
Davion Mitchell is going to, at the very least, be a rotation-level player because of his playmaking and defensive prowess as a combo guard. If his shooting carries over, he’s going to be a great role player. There just is not much more to like outside of that – and I would like to see the Toronto Raptors take a big swing here rather than making the “safe” selection. Mitchell would almost certainly be branded as the heir to Kyle Lowry, as well – as unrealistic as those expectations are.
