The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to be represented by their star rookie at the NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night, first reported by Zach Lowe of ESPN (and was later confirmed by Timberwolves PR).

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2020 first overall pick is going to be attending the virtual event as the team representative (or, the person whose face is shown if/when the Timberwolves jump up in the lottery).

Last season, the Timberwolves were represented by star point guard D’Angelo Russell – jumping from the third overall pick to first.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have roughly a 27-percent chance of keeping their draft pick on Tuesday night with the top-4 players in this draft being significantly stronger than most seasons. Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Jalen Green, and Jalen Suggs are all excellent prospects, and any of them would have been the favorite to go first overall in the 2020 Draft had they been eligible.

This Timberwolves’ offseason largely is dependent upon whether they have their draft pick – as it would be another valuable trade chip should the trade happy general manager Gersson Rosas choose to go in that direction. Or, if they keep the pick, it could be an extremely valuable player for the future of the Minnesota franchise.

The top-projected pick, Cade Cunningham, is a 6-foot-8 point guard that can score at all three levels and defend most positions. He is not someone the Timberwolves should look to trade away, should they be awarded the first overall pick for the second consecutive season.

The NBA Draft Lottery order is going to be announced on ESPN on Tuesday, June 22nd, at 8:30 P.M. Eastern (7:30 central). Last season, the Timberwolves gained the first pick, followed by the Golden State Warriors (2ndoverall), Charlotte Hornets (3rd overall), and Chicago Bulls (4th overall).
