The Minnesota Timberwolves lost their draft pick to the Golden State Warriors in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery. The Golden State Warriors will pick seventh as a part of the Andrew Wiggins-D’Angelo Russell trade agreed upon prior to the 2020 NBA Trade Deadline.

The Minnesota Timberwolves had the 6th-best odds at gaining a top-3 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, with about a 27-percent chance. The four players projected to be taken within that range are Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, and Jalen Suggs.

The Golden State Warriors now hold two lottery picks: the 7th overall selection and the 14th overall selection. It would make sense for them to move those picks in combination for a win-now veteran.

The Timberwolves, on the good side, do not have any future first round picks owed to any team, and they should be able to bring 2020 first round pick Leandro Bolmaro over from Europe.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were unfortunately projected to be picking this high due to the lack of luck they experienced over the course of this season. They faced serious injuries to each of Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Malik Beasley.

Assuming some offseason improvement, the team should be able to fight for a playoff spot next season, especially with natural progression from Anthony Edwards and company.

Last season, the Minnesota Timberwolves won the NBA Draft Lottery and gained the first overall pick, which they used to select Rookie of the Year runner-up Anthony Edwards. Losing their draft pick hurts, but it does not mean they will not be able to be a solid team next season.
