The Minnesota Timberwolves would be pulling off a straight swap in this scenario. First, they would be moving off of Josh Okogie, who they would be presumably hesitant to give a contract extension after the inconsistent season he had.

The Nuggets, on the other hand, would be getting exactly what their biggest need is – a lengthy wing-sized point-of-attack defender that can play in various lineups. Okogie additionally would be benefitting from the spacing that is provided by MVP Nikola Jokic, Michael Porter Jr., Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon.

To say that he is the missing piece would be a generous statement, but Okogie would certainly help the Nuggets perform well this season, especially in the playoffs – where the Nuggets were burned by Suns guard Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, and Chris Paul.

Players in this range that the Timberwolves could take a look at are Tennessee guard Jaden Springer, Oregon wing Chris Duarte, and Florida guard Tre Mann. Each of those players would make sense and would fit in different ways.

Asking a rookie to give as much of an impact as Okogie in their first year would be a strong ask, but it is not as if Okogie wasn’t replaceable on a bad team this past year – he very clearly was – and during some games was actually a negative asset on the court.
