Minnesota Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards won’t be traded

The next player that will not be moved this offseason was Rookie of the Year runner-up Anthony Edwards, who drastically improved over the course of the season, and looks to become Minnesota’s second star – only behind the aforementioned Karl-Anthony Towns.

Edwards is coming off of a season that would has mirrored some of the best rookies in recent memory, averaging 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 72 games. Over the final 27 games of the season, though, Edwards was even better. He averaged 24 points, five boards, and four assists in those games on splits of 47/35/77.

Had he done that for the entire year, he would have beaten Ball out for the ROTY award. But again, that’s not what matters here – that award is meaningless unless the player which wins actually does something in their career.

And, well, Anthony Edwards very well has the potential to establish something great alongside Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota. The Timberwolves are only missing the surrounding pieces around them. They need progression from any of the several players on their roster – or they need to find the third star to complement those two players.

Next. Why the Timberwolves might make a major offseason trade. dark

One of the options existing outside of the roster is Ben Simmons, who would be a natural fit defensively alongside Towns and Edwards. Another, assuming he gets back to his Brooklyn nets form, could be D’Angelo Russell – although whether he could be the third option on a championship team remains to be seen.
