The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to have to take advantage of desperate teams this offseason – one of which could be the Portland Trail Blazers. If Damian Lillard ends up requesting a trade, the Timberwolves should do everything they can to acquire him.

Damian Lillard has been in the news lately if you haven’t been paying attention.

"“The enormous backlash from the Portland Trail Blazers’ process to hire a new coach and his concerns on whether a championship contender can be build have become that may push the franchise player – Damian Lillard – out the door, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Lillard has remained loyal to Portland in large part due to the tremendous fan base. But over the last few days, he’s seen some of those same fans attacking him on social media for a pending coaching hire he played no part in consummating, sources said.”"

The Minnesota Timberwolves could be one of the teams interested in acquiring Lillard, should the price be lower than expected.

Damian Lillard, 31 in July, has the entire contract extension he signed a few years back still ahead of him. It is a four year contract worth $176 million (with a fifth year player option worth $49 million in 2025).

That said, the Timberwolves would have a lot more assets to offer than other teams, despite not even having a draft pick. If they were willing to include him in a deal, Anthony Edwards is a player that the Trail blazers would assuredly be interested in – given he finished second in ROTY voting.

And yes, if that’s the price – general manager Gersson Rosas should be willing to include Edwards in a deal for Lillard.

In fact, if Edwards is ever even close to what Lillard currently is – it will have been a spectacular draft pick – but the odds he becomes the type (and level) of scorer that Damian Lillard actually is seems unlikely.

dark. Next. Rumor: Wolves interested in Simmons?

I don’t know about you all, but I would give an unholy amount of assets to see Towns and Lillard on the same team.
