Minnesota Timberwolves: Draft targets if Wolves trade into second round
By Nate Ackert
Second-round draft prospects for the Minnesota Timberwolves: Joe Wieskamp
Joe Wieskamp | SG/SF | Iowa | 6-foot-7, 205 pounds
Joe Wieskamp wasn’t the offensive focal point for the Iowa Hawkeyes this past season, but he was undoubtedly one of the stars of the 2021 NBA Combine.
Wieskamp chalked up 26 points in his Friday game at the combine, which also included 10 rebounds and a 6-for-7 performance from three. With a max vertical jump of 42 inches and a wingspan measured at 6-foot-11, Wieskamp definitely saw his draft stock go up at the combine.
At 6-foot-7, Wieskamp would be a nice fit on this Wolves roster. He shot 46.2 percent from 3-point range this past season, including 1.46 points per possession on catch-and-shoot opportunities from behind the arc.
He has also proven to be a strong rebounder at the wing, as he averaged 6.6 rebounds per game while sharing the floor with Wooden Award-Winning Center Luka Garza. Wieskamp’s athleticism and length also give him the potential to be a versatile defender at the next level.
Wieskamp could provide consistent shooting for a Wolves bench that lacks the skill, which would become especially important to have if Malik Beasley were to be traded this offseason. Wieskamp’s stock is on the rise and is currently projected to be selected anywhere from No. 36 to No. 56 overall.
If the Wolves are able to acquire a second-round pick of any type, Joe Wieskamp is a high-floor option that makes a lot of sense for the Timberwolves.
