Minnesota Timberwolves: Grading Rosas’s coaching staff decisions

If there is one thing that Gersson Rosas may not have had total control over the past few seasons, it was whether Ryan Saunders stayed as head coach as long as he did – because he was not the man for the job – and that was especially known following Minnesota’s start to this past season.

Chris Finch, however, came on to the head coaching job and excelled through his first half-season, with little to no time to prepare (quite literally 2-3 days before his first game). Following the All-Star break, things got a lot better – and Finch proved that he was able to maximize his players, getting the most from Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and D’Angelo Russell once he fully returned from his injury.

It remains to be seen how the team is going to perform following a full offseason of preparation – and whether Chris Finch will be able to manage the guard rotation of Ricky Rubio-Malik Beasley-Edwards-Russell. But again, that rotation may change this offseason with how trade-happy management can be.

That said, the coaching hire of Chris Finch looks to be a good one thus far. He has been successful in the limited games he has been coach – despite having zero time to prepare as well as a very heavily-injured roster.

Grade: B (This could change quite a bit, depending on Finch’s longevity)
