The Minnesota Timberwolves have few decisions to make in terms of re-signing players – however Jordan McLaughlin presents an interesting scenario, as he finished the season on a two-way contract.

Jordan McLaughlin had lots of highs (and lots of lows) this past season. In 51 game appearances, he averaged 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.0 turnovers on shooting splits of 41/36/77.

Minnesota Timberwolves: Jordan McLaughlin presents an interesting situation

Those numbers are down from the previous season, when McLaughlin was a rookie, averaging more points and assists with a better turnover percentage.

There was a clear regression in Jordan McLaughlin’s name from season one to two. His scoring numbers were down in a role with less volume than what he had during his rookie season. That said, he is still promising considering what he brings, and is worth bringing back for another season – albeit that seems unlikely at this point.

Jordan McLaughlin has played with the uncertainty of not having a long-term, full-time NBA contract in place. It is very possible that he has played his last NBA minutes.

But the Timberwolves should consider bringing McLaughlin back, though, especially if Ricky Rubio is moved via trade this offseason. He is a two-way guard that can play in space with pace – and that is increasingly valuable in this new-age NBA.

While McLaughlin is slightly older for a reserve player, he’s a steady cog in a offense that has some inconsistency in playmaking.

The Minnesota Timberwolves probably won’t bring Jordan McLaughlin back, though. He’s already 25, and most two-way contract players are between 19-22. That does not mean that McLaughlin will not be able to find a roster spot elsewhere, however things don’t look very bright in that respect.

Personally, I’m hoping he finds a way to stick around. McLaughlin is a fun, smart player that makes an impact on the floor.
