Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: Anthony Edwards hurt, Wolves in Seattle Pro-Am
By Ben Beecken
Minnesota Timberwolves star and Rookie of the Year award runner-up Anthony Edwards sprained his ankle in a scrimmage between the U.S. Select team and Team U.S.A.
Also, a pair of current Wolves players will participate in the upcoming Seattle Pro-Am hosted by former Timberwolves guard Jamal Crawford.
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards hurt in Team U.S.A. scrimmage
On Wednesday afternoon, a video made the rounds on social media showing a hobbled Anthony Edwards making his way to the team bus following a U.S. Select vs. Team U.S.A. scrimmage.
Shortly thereafter, confirmation came down that the injury is a sprain that “isn’t considered to be serious,” in the words of ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Windhorst also reported that Edwards stepped on the foot of Draymond Green during the scrimmage, which was won by the Select team.
It would have always been a surprise to see Edwards play in Las Vegas Summer League, which takes place in August this year, but it would be even more surprising now. Edwards has plenty of time to get his ankle right and gear up for training camp, which is only something like 10 weeks away.
Minnesota Timberwolves players in Jamal Crawford’s Seattle Pro-Am
The Wolves have a pair of former Washington Huskies on their roster, and both players grew up in the Seattle area, so it would stand to reason that they would play in the tournament put together by the ambassador for all things basketball in the Pacific Northwest.
Indeed, former Timberwolves guard Jamal Crawford is putting on another Seattle Pro-Am, aptly titled “The Crawsover” — see what he did there?

You’ll notice that Crawford is linking up with rising star Kevin Porter Jr. and defensive stalwart Matisse Thybulle on a squad — entitled “Dream Team”, no doubt — that will no doubt be considered the favorite.
Wolves forward Jaden McDaniels will join brother and Charlotte Hornets big man Jalen McDaniels on “The Sonics”, while Wolves guard Jaylen Nowell will play with Toronto Raptors 2020 first-round pick Malachi Flynn on “Washington’s Finest.”
Other notable current and former NBA players include Marquese Chriss, Dejuonte Murray, and Isaiah Thomas.
The play-in round is this weekend at Seattle Pacific University before the full tournament picks up on July 24 in the same location.
If there are any Wolves-related highlights that take place, we’ll be on it here at Dunking With Wolves.
