Minnesota Timberwolves Buy or Sell: Kyle Kuzma

There is so much smoke in the “Trade Kuzma!” house that by now, you have to think there’s some fire.

Meanwhile, the Wolves appear open to shopping Malik Beasley, a natural fit for the Lakers roster. Ergo, it seems logical that a Beasley-for-Kuzma swap could be in the cards for the Timberwolves and Lakers.

Timberwolves fans may want to hope that this isn’t the case.

Kyle Kuzma sports a career PER of 13.4 in four seasons of NBA basketball. His best season came on a rebuilding 2018-19 Lakers squad when he averaged 18.7 points per game. That’s a nice mark, but it reeks of decent-player-on-a-bad-team production from a guy who has graded as below average over the course of his career.

With Towns, Anthony Edwards, and Russell on the roster, the Timberwolves need the type of player who thrives alongside stars, not a player who mustered 12.8 points per game over two seasons alongside LeBron James.

They need floor spacers. Guys like, for example … Malik Beasley, and his 39.1 percent career 3-point shooting percentage.

Kuzma is a flashy name, but the Wolves would be better off adding a solid 3-and-D wing or two, rather than a guy who thrives (relatively speaking) with the ball in his hands. This young team already has a bevy of such players.

Verdict: Sell
