The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to be very active in the trade market this offseason, especially prior to the NBA Draft taking place on July 29th. By contrast, the Philadelphia 76ers are in an interesting spot in the sense that they underperformed in the playoffs this year, and will be under pressure to make a Finals appearance in 2021-22.

Timberwolves general manager Gersson Rosas has made it clear that one of the main methods for small market teams to improve upon their roster is via trade. The Timberwolves are going to have plenty of opportunities to get better this offseason – they will just have less assets to make that happen – like any draft picks or salary cap space.

Some of the main trade chips at the Timberwolves disposal this offseason are: Ricky Rubio (starting point guard with a one-year contract), Malik Beasley (high-level wing shooter), Jarrett Culver (buy-low wing), and Josh Okogie (another buy-low wing that is extension eligible).

It is unlikely that the Timberwolves decide to move on from D’Angelo Russell this early into his stint with the Timberwolves, but there is a scenario which that does happen – and I will detail it in the coming slides.

From a teambuilding perspective, the Philadelphia 76ers have a lot that could be of interest to the Minnesota Timberwolves. It will be interesting to see whether the front office actively pursues such deals (or if they actually complete a trade). Either way, it will be fun to see what Gersson Rosas and Chris Finch are able to accomplish.
