Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 trades with the Philadelphia 76ers
Finally, we get to the trade that I assume most people are interested in: the one that brings Ben Simmons to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 trades with the Philadelphia 76ers
In this deal, the team moved D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley, the two main components of this trade, for Ben Simmons. Following this potential deal, the Timberwolves would have a core that consists of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and Ben Simmons – three players that would have a clear cut role on a fun, young team with an innovative coach.
Yes, it would take a substancial trade to acquire Simmons, but it could be more than worth it for Minnesota. For starters, Simmons value is at it’s lowest following a poor performance in the 2021 NBA playoffs – an outlier considering what he has done so far in his career.
Second, the Timberwolves would have all three of their best players under the age of 26 – something that is infinitely valuable as they could grow together, so long as the surrounding pieces to the core were in tact.
Finally, you don’t know when another player of Simmons’s caliber is going to become available. Waiting and missing out on Simmons could be the reason the Timberwolves don’t eventually become a playoff team. Yeah, it would be a risk, but it could pay off in a major way.
