Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Target: JaMychal Green

Speaking of role players, we’ve arrived at a player with whom Nikola Jokic recently stated he’d like to play his entire career.

The Timberwolves may want to discover exactly how JaMychal Green earned such high praise from the league MVP firsthand.

Similar to Batum, Green makes his living in the NBA as a lethal floor spacer (39.9 percent from deep this season) and versatile, hard-nosed defender. He may not be a lockdown perimeter stopper, but he’s an effective, team-minded help defender who can provide a semblance of both perimeter and interior defense.

He could also be a useful mentor for McDaniels, and that’s not something to undervalue for a young squad like Minnesota’s.

Green or Batum would likely form a platoon with the young forward (and if he returns, restricted free agent Jarred Vanderbilt), allowing the Timberwolves to give opponents different, match-up-dependent looks.

Green has been a journeyman, suiting up for five squads in seven seasons throughout his young NBA career. However, when it comes to role players, this can easily be viewed in a positive light: Green is precisely the type of player every team should want, but will also be willing to part with in a package for a star, etc. There is a proven market for Green’s services, and the Timberwolves should be precisely in the market for them.

He has more playoff experience than the majority of players the Wolves currently roster, he spaces the floor, he can play either frontcourt position, and he’s a versatile defender. He may not be everything Timberwolves fans want, but he’s exactly what this roster needs.
