Minnesota Timberwolves Need #2: Rim protection

Aside from the power forward issue, it’s clear that this team needed more protection at the rim against dominant big men. The likes of Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and others mostly got what they wanted in the paint against the Wolves.

Not to knock Towns, but hasn’t been the best defender as a pro. Getting an additional big man that could protect the rim could be huge for this Timberwolves team.

Due to Towns’ injury history, the Wolves would likely target someone who could start alongside him, or without KAT on the floor altogether. They would also ideally have the ability to shoot the three and score down low so they could be interchangeable with KAT in the starting lineup if needed.

This is where new head coach Chris Finch could have some fun with the lineups. If the Timberwolves are able to get a rim protector who can also space the floor they could run some very interesting schemes against other teams.

Two ideal trade targets for the Wolves are Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers and Chris Boucher of the Raptors. These two players would both be exactly what this team needs and could be a two-in-one fix to their power forward issue as well.

Turner and Boucher both have shown that they are two of the best shot-blocking, perimeter shooting big men in the league.

Last season, Turner led the league and averaged 3.4 blocks a game while shooting nearly 34 percent from three, and Boucher averaged nearly two blocks per game while shooting 38 percent from three.

Either one of these guys would be practically interchangeable with KAT and allow the Timberwolves to run a double big lineup, or have someone who can lead the bench unit with big minutes. Such an addition would bring an immense amount of defense to this team, which is what they need the most at this very moment.
