Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 3 offseason needs and possible trade targets
Minnesota Timberwolves Need #3: Consistent veteran role players
Last season, it was clear that a majority of the Timberwolves roster was full of raw, young players that just don’t know the in’s and out’s of the league quite yet.
Guys like Naz Reid, Jaylen Nowell, and Vanderbilt were all getting substantial minutes, which while good for development, isn’t the best when this team is trying to get past the hump and make it into the playoffs. Being that this was a team plagued by injuries last year as well, it will be crucial that they get some help off the bench so not all the pressure is on their young players.
Signing or trading for a few quality, veteran bench players would work wonders for this team. They would get the leadership they need which is somewhat lacking, and if their young players get injured again they will have solid pieces to fall back on. There are many players across the league that would be great veterans for the Wolves, but these players would have to be defense-first because that is the biggest struggle for the team at the moment.
The top targets for the Wolves in this category should consist of Taj Gibson, Jeff Green, and Trevor Ariza. All of these guys could be a great influence for the young up-and-coming players on this team while also providing valuable spot minutes. The best part is, they would cost very little for this Timberwolves team to acquire as well.
Whether or not the Timberwolves make any of these moves is up for debate, but it is clear that they need to improve defensively if they want to take that next step as a team. It’s safe to say that Gersson Rosas will likely be aggressive in the trade market this summer to try and make something happen for this young team with so much potential.
If the Wolves can make these small adjustments they will improve tremendously, but either way, it will be very interesting to finally see how KAT and D-Lo play alongside each other.
