The Minnesota Timberwolves need more versatility on their team, despite adding players such as Taurean Prince and Patrick Beverley via trade this past offseason.

One such player that could make sense for the Timberwolves is wing/forward Cam Reddish of the Atlanta Hawks, who has had an interesting start to his career thus far.

Minnesota Timberwolves: Cam Reddish is an under-the-radar trade target

Reddish, who turns 22 in September, is entering his third NBA season with the Atlanta hawks, who selected him with the 10th overall pick in 2019. Over the course of the past two seasons, Reddish is averaging 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and 1.1 steals per game on shooting splits of 38/31/81.

On the surface, that may not look great (because it’s not). Reddish has been in and out of the Hawks starting lineup throughout his career, mainly because his contributions come mostly on the defensive end of things. He’s a versatile on-and-off ball defender – one that is active in generating turnovers and sticking with players along the perimeter. If the Timberwolves want a young upside player that has shown at least some flashes offensively, Reddish may be the one they take a chance on.

Of course, though, there is some repeat in what Reddish would bring to the Timberwolves. Back in 2018, the Timberwolves selected Josh Okogie with a selection in the late teens. While he provides defense at a high level, the offense still has yet to come around – and Timberwolves fans may not want to invest assets into a player who’s similarities come close to a player already on the roster.

With that said, the price to actually go and acquire Reddish may be lower than expected. Despite being a mid-lottery pick just two years ago, Reddish’s name has been swirling in rumors – something that may indicate his price tag is reasonable. During draft week, the Hawks were reportedly including his name in talks in an attempt to move into the late lottery from the 20th overall pick.

Next. What is the Timberwolves 2021-22 closing lineup going to be?. dark

The Timberwolves have a clear need for versatile defenders, even after adding players like Beverley and Prince – and Reddish would only add to that. Whether or not general manager Gersson Rosas actually considers making a move for Reddish could depend on whether he wants a trade for a better player – such as Ben Simmons.
