While the entire NBA released their City Edition uniforms for 2021-22 with the intention of celebrating the NBA’s 75th season, the Minnesota Timberwolves absolutely stole the show.

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2021-22 City Edition jerseys are amazing

The NBA is spending the 2021-22 campaign honoring the league’s 75th anniversary. That means that the Nike City Edition uniforms have taken on a decidedly throwback feel.

At the same time, the league was careful to (mostly) avoid simply running it back by reviving jerseys identical to past uniforms. Instead, fans have been treated to an intriguing blend of past and present.

In the case of the Wolves, it’s hard to argue that things could have turned out any better.

If you follow the link to the Timberwolves website, you’ll be greeted with a full page of content regarding the full uniform kit, including media day photos of virtually every player on the roster in the new threads.

Here’s a look at the amazing video put together by the Wolves content team, which does a fantastic job of blending the past with the present and the future.

Longtime Wolves fans will immediately catch the blend of colors from the inaugural Wolves uniforms with the Wolf/”Old Shep” logo, which is included on the shorts. The font and tree-lining is a clear call-out to the Kevin Garnett-era Wolves.

There’s even a brief nod to the Tom Thibodeau/Jimmy Butler Wolves with wolf’s “guard hairs” included on the side panels, which were included on the gray 2017 City Edition uniforms that the Wolves wore in Game No. 82 as they clinched a playoff berth for the first time in 14 years.

The current logo is on one side of the shorts, opposite the Old Shep logo, and the shortening of the team’s name from “Timberwolves” to “Wolves” is another tie-in to the current primary jerseys.

It’s always difficult to fully judge a new set of jerseys until we see them in action on the court, but it’s already clear that these are going to look sharp and immediately become fan favorites.

The link to the NBA’s release regarding the jersey designs is above, so be sure to check out some of the other fantastic designs (see: Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, LA Clippers) and the questionable/boring ones (see: Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans).

The Wolves will wear their City Edition jerseys for the first time this Friday night for the home game against the LA Clippers. Target Center should be electric, to say the least.
