NBA Free Agency: Minnesota Timberwolves

Of course, with any new season, there is the need to reshuffle the team roster due to the potential exodus of the team’s current unrestricted and restricted free agents. We’ve taken a raw look at the Timberwolves’ Free Agency status. What we’ve found is that the pieces are good, but in the salary cap-strapped reality that the team faces this off-season, the likelihood of re-signing any players may be limited to cheap and team-friendly deals.

Unrestricted Free Agents
Jake Layman
Greg Monroe
Taurean Prince

Jaylen Nowell ($1.9 million club option)
Naz Reid ($1.9 million club option)

Restricted Free Agents

Josh Okogie
Nathan Knight
McKinley Wright IV

All in all, the Timberwolves roster is stable enough in the 2022 offseason to wiggle around (financially speaking, of course) to make an impactful move or two.

I like what the T-Wolves have in both KAT and Edwards. If they can find a way to upgrade their point guard situation, so much the better. The team will also need another big to help out Towns near the basket. A solid rebounder, perhaps a power forward, who also can shoot a trey in the pinch?  Of course, 30 NBA teams are looking for a player who fits that exact description. The Phoenix Suns’ have PF Dario Saric who is returning from ACL surgery and entering the final year of his contract.

The LA Clippers found solid success in SF/PF Robert Covington and locked him in with a new two-year extension. They likely are not interested in dealing him to another team, but it never hurts to place the phone call.
