Soft tissue health

That wear and tear create tears and irregularities in the soft connective tissue that forms around or near the bone(s) in the joint region. Tendons, ligaments, and cartilage are all at risk and, depending on the severity of the damage, can generate varying amounts of pain, limit the range of motion, or both.

Stem Cell Therapy and  Platelet Rich Plasma are simply two new regenerative therapies to aid in reducing pain and promoting the body’s own ability to repair itself at the injury site. So how do these two therapies work?

The body has the ability to heal itself over time. That process is limited to the amount of rest available for the injury site, the blood flow to the injury site, and the therapy (or surgery) involved in the rehabilitation.

In both cases, the therapy delivers someone’s own natural healing systems directly to the injured site. In Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, a patient’s blood is drawn. Then, the small blood cells known as platelets are separated from the other blood cells and plasma into a more concentrated form.  The original blood (minus the platelets) is returned to the draw-site, while the new Platelet Rich Plasma is injected separately to the site of the injury.

Platelet-rich plasma acts to attract the necessary healing factors to the wound site. Simply stated, PRP serves to bring oxygen, nutrition, and healing cells in, while shipping damaged tissue, waste, and low oxygen blood out.

Conversely, Stem Cell Therapy is similar in nature, but in this instance, stem cells are extracted from the hip bone or fat deposits. Unlike the readily available blood platelet cells, stem cells are limited in volume and therefore the harvesting and concentration process is a bit more complicated and involved.
