Glasshouses, and social media rocks

But those comments are not going unnoticed.  Look for plenty of fallout on this one, perhaps the type of fallout that Patrick Beverly will not be able to hold up to as other NBA players rush in just to come to Chris Paul’s defense. For instance, Portland Trail Blazers Damian Lillard, someone who openly admits to not having a horse in this race, has already spoken out on Twitter.

Damian Lillard doubled down soon afterward. In the end, you quickly learn not to write checks with your mouth that your body can’t cash. And right now, It looks as though Patrick Beverly has insufficient funds in the body of his NBA work to cash the check that he just wrote on television.

Whether the words were ill-intended or just an innocently poorly timed but honest assessment, ripping at another player calls all sorts of attention to yourself. Like this unflattering quick and dirty analysis:

Hey, it’s a free country. Patrick Beverly has the right to speak his mind. But he has the responsibility to understand that whenever he does, he is also speaking as a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The fact is that Beverly will not be held to those words. The Minnesota Timberwolves will be held accountable.

An NBA season is a long 82 games. There is a natural ebb and flow to preparedness, rest, focus, and a host of other contributing factors that must be overcome and masted to compete in each game. Now, Chris Paul and any player who appreciates him as either a person or as an NBA player has that extra incentive to be that much more prepared, rested, focused, and a host of other factors whenever they face the Timberwolves.

There is an old saying: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.”  That’s not about being polite, or well mannered. It has to do with self-preservation.
