To get Connelly, Minnesota Timberwolves offer needs to blow him away

As far as NBA Rumors go, the link of Denver Nuggets President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly to a similar role with the Minnesota Timberwolves is about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. That’s not red-hot, but it’s not cool to the touch, either. After all, this is a new NBA ownership group and they are eager to make a splash to elevate the level of play with the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise.

And the new owners know that to do that, they will need one of the best NBA executives to get them there. That means that they have set their sights on the Tier-1 executives in the league right now.

As we had reported before, the focus of the current search appears to be centering on Tim Connelly. Why? Well, his ability to find success in the NBA Draft so far is unmatched, and that just happens to be an area where the Timberwolves had struggled in the past. So where are we?

So what might some other factors in this developing story?  Well, the fact that head coach Chris Finch and Tim Connelly have a history from their shared history in the 2016-2017 season.

Could that swing the decision to the Minnesota Timberwolves side? Well, it certainly won’t hurt. The past relationships with Finch probably bode well for Finch’s long-term status as the team’s head coach than it does for the Timberwolves.

As originally feared, the growing intensity appears to be a game of chicken for Tim Connelly’s camp and the Denver Nuggets ownership. If the Nuggets ante up any counteroffer, I believe that any headway the Timberwolves make will be instantly blown out of the water.

So the Timberwolves will need to work quickly, make a tremendous offer, and then place a timetable on accepting the offer. Will it happen? I’m a bit skeptical. But stay tuned, as this story could have rapid developments.
