A new President for the Minnesota Timberwolves? Welcome, Tim Connelly
By Travis Rose
NBA Draft
First up on the list is the NBA Draft, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 23 at 6:30 pm CT in Brooklyn, New York.
The draft is an area that Connelly has a ton of experience, and success, in over the course of his career. From helping the Denver Nuggets draft two-time league MVP Nikola Jokic, and star guard Jamal Murray (who is currently dealing with a knee injury), to building a solid supporting cast around the star duo. With players like Michael Porter Jr, Bones Hyland, Malik Beasley, and forward Jarred Vanderbilt, Connelly has demonstrated not only the ability to select elite talent but the ability to add complementary pieces to an NBA roster to amplify the success of the elite talent.
Not to mention acquiring high flyer Aaron Gordon at the 2021 trade deadline. While this may be a new home and start for Tim Connelly and his family, he has proven that he is well equipped to handle the pressure.
The Timberwolves have signed Connelly to a five-year, $40 million deal, a compensation package that turns out to be more than double what he was making with the Nuggets. In salary alone, he is now one of the NBA’s highest-compensated executives. The agreement also includes a kicker for ownership equity.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are armed with four draft picks for the upcoming 2022 NBA Draft, far more picks than Connelly planned to work with while serving in his role with the Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves hold the 19th, 40th, 48th, and 50th picks in the draft. The Nuggets only hold the 21st pick.
