The Minnesota Timberwolves are getting noticed in many ways recently. Not only by their aggressive efforts to land one of the top NBA executives of his time, but thanks to Sports Innovative Labs, we now know that they appear in the latest Top 25 most innovative teams in the world. In fact, they are one of nine NBA Teams to do so.

What exactly does that mean? Exactly how are professional sports teams scored for innovation? Here is their report, and the three metrics used to determine which teams are the most innovative sports teams in the world. Per Sports Innovative Labs, they based their list on three criteria:
And so the three components are: (1) Revenue diversification (2) Technology enablement and finally, (3) Organizational agility. Per the Sports Innovation Labs list, the Philadelphia 76ers come in as the 5th-ranked most innovative sports team, while the Dallas Mavericks show up as the 9th-ranked most innovative sports team. The Minnesota Timberwolves come in next, as the 11th-ranked most innovative sports team.

Phoenix Suns – 19th ranked
Golden State Warriors – 20th ranked
Brooklyn Nets – 22nd ranked
Toronto Raptors – 23rd ranked
Portland Trail Blazers – 25th ranked
The NBA has been a leader in the use of more innovative advancements in technology. In fact, basketball is so invested in data analytics, that many teams use the technology to track not only game statistics but track practice statistics as well.
Also, the NBA leads all American sports in international marketing, having implemented a number of various methods of cooperating and collaborating with international basketball teams on a regular basis. It’s very reassuring to see that the Minnesota Timberwolves are among the most innovative teams in the world, particularly in the NBA which is itself very innovative.
