Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has been in the NBA for seven seasons. Over that time, he has gone from being selected as the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft from the University of Kentucky to being voted into the All-NBA Third Team for the second time in his career. That is truly a rare accomplishment for such a young player.

Towns, a.k.a. as the Big KAT, is now eligible to sign a rewarding “supermax” extension that would take effect when his current deal expires in two seasons, a deal that is well worth the price for an All-Star Center.

Big KAT was one of the main components of the Timberwolves’ success this season. He averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists over 74 games in the 2021-22 NBA season. Surprisingly, many of those numbers have fallen below what he has accomplished in the past two seasons. And his 9.8 rebounds are lower than his career average.

The Timberwolves finished the regular season with a record of 46-36, good enough to be the seventh seed in the Western Conference.

The 2021-22 Minnesota Timberwolves were impressive in several ways. Not only did the team earn a playoff berth in the NBA Playoffs, but they defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 109-104 in the Play-in Tournament. The team had a drawn to a 2-2 series and appeared to be well on the way to winning their third and decisive victory, but ultimately lost game five and fell to a playoff-ready Memphis Grizzlies team in the first round.
