More NBA Rumors: What can Matt Lloyd add to Minnesota Timberwolves?
By Bret Stuter
Will the Minnesota Timberwolves tie their hopes for future success to the NBA Draft? Or will the Timberwolves play the NBA Free Agency market in the pursuit of a better roster? For that matter, do they need to make this an either-or selection? Or do the Minnesota Timberwolves have a window of opportunity where both strategies can add complementary talent?
Well, if the Minnesota Timberwolves pursue Orlando Magic executive Matt Lloyd, you would be wise to place your bets upon the draft. After all, that has been the forte’ of Lloyd, and no doubt the reason why his name is linked to the Timberwolves in NBA rumors as a candidate for a role in new Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly’s staff.
Lloyd began his NBA career in 1994 with the Chicago Bulls as a part-time employee, ultimately rising to the role of Director of College Scouting. He signed on with the Orlando Magic in 2012, as Assistant to the General Manager. He was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations in October 2021. In that new role, Lloyd is tasked with the Orlando Magic’s professional, college, and international scouting departments, as well as assisting with roster management and development.
So what makes Lloyd particularly suited for the Timberwolves? He has been instrumental in the adoption and optimal use of basketball data analytics and has been active in implementing that technology to aid NBA executives in the comparison, contrast, and decision-making tasks that are inherent in managing an NBA roster.
Because his responsibility has been inclusive of college, professional, and international scouting, Lloyd would automatically arrive fully versed in practically all the available talent options for the Timberwolves’ offseason moves.
In short? He could hit the floor running. That is not an easy item to find on anyone’s resume. Stay tuned folks. It appears that things are heating up.
